NIL Go and deal reporting: prepare the right information

The right reporting answer starts with your athlete status and the current official guidance.

What NIL Go is for

NIL Go is the designated platform used in the Division I third-party NIL reporting and review framework. The IRS’s overview of the House settlement describes the platform’s role in evaluating commercial purpose and compensation. It is not a marketplace promising to find an athlete a deal.

Reporting a deal, receiving payment, and completing campaign work are separate events. Keep each on your calendar and confirm which steps apply to your situation.

Why a single deadline can be misleading

The NCAA’s current NIL resource page distinguishes high-school prospects, junior-college entrants, and transfers. It describes a $600 reporting threshold and aggregation in those contexts, with different timing provisions. The page also identifies a five-business-day requirement for new or changed deals during Division I-to-Division I transfers.

Do not treat this short summary as a complete deadline chart for every athlete. Confirm your category, the relevant reporting period, the agreement date, and any changes with your compliance contact. Check the official page for exact current instructions.

Gather a complete deal record

Prepare the counterparty’s identity, the agreement, compensation details, deliverables, dates, and any amendments. Keep cash and noncash components visible. If more than one agreement involves the same payer, flag that relationship rather than assuming each transaction can be assessed in isolation.

A practical preparation note can include: ‘This is my current status; these are the agreement and payment dates; these are the parties; these are the deliverables; this is what changed.’ That gives the person helping you a concrete question to answer.

Use official access and support routes

Begin with the school’s compliance office and the College Sports Commission. Confirm the correct access process through those channels. Do not share login credentials with a person who promises guaranteed clearance.

Save confirmation of submission and any request for more information. Keep the response with the same deal file. If an agreement changes, ask whether the updated terms require additional reporting instead of assuming the first submission covers every revision.

Do not confuse reporting with every other obligation

A reporting process does not replace understanding the contract, the rights in content, tax questions, or advertising disclosures. Each addresses a different part of the activity. Use the deal checklist to organize those separate questions.

If you are still in high school, start with the high-school NIL guide as well. Current high-school eligibility and later college reporting are not the same question.
